Trophy Bow Hunting
Bow Hunting in South Africa can be extremely challenging and
rewarding especially for plains game
species. A minimum draw weight of
50lbs is required for plains game hunting.
It is however recommended to use a bow of
60lbs to 80lbs. Three types of bows can be
used when bow hunting in South Africa - the
compound, re curve and long bow. The
compound bow is by far the most widely used.
A bow hunting safari should normally be slightly longer than a
rifle safari which pursues the same species.
We would recommend a hunt of at least seven
days. Bow hunting is conducted throughout
the year and it is advisable to book your
safari well in advance.
The hounds are on point! They quiver as a
command steadies them. With adrenalin
surging, you move into position. In a
screeching flurry, the elusive Greywings
explode in all directions. Reports ring out
and birds crumple in the air.
Waterfowl are also available. Species such as Egyptian and
Spurwing Geese, Yellowbill and Shelduck are
shot on the scattered beds of water
The gamey Guinea Fowl are walked up in
wooded terrain and present a challenging
target when flushed.
